6/3/09 09:03 pm - It's cake time again! |
5/26/09 07:44 pm - Vampire T-ShirtGot the week off so I've been crafting... ![]() I copied the design from an Illustrated People jumper I saw in Topshop, didn't want to spend nearly £40 on something I could make myself for a fiver! I'm quite pleased with how it turned out. |
5/2/09 01:16 pm - A thought about the whole swine flu issue(I'm actually kind of excited that I finally get to use my degree for something - I specialised in virology then went on to do a masters in epidemiology, the study of epidemics). The whole swine flu thing is scary. But thinking about it logically, there are currently only 484 confirmed cases and 13 confirmed deaths, giving around a 3% mortality rate. That mortality rate is probably inflated as they would be more likely to test people who die for swine flu than those who show flu like symptoms and then recover. In light of this 'new' virus we we have media uproar, billions of pounds/dollars investment, stockpiling of anti virals and the entire world seems to be wearing face masks most of which are about as effective as holding a tissue over your mouth. Yet what about HIV? 38.6 million infected, 100% mortality rate (all be it often after many years) and yet the majority of people still refuse/neglect to wear a condom. Just food for thought. *gets off high horse* |

1/25/09 09:09 pm - Writer's Block: RoboticMarvin from Hitchhikers Guide. Ooo, or Kryten from Red Dwarf. Or K-9. Dammit, there are actually lots of great robots. Like Sir Killalot from Robots Wars in the nineties. He was great. Still, its got to be Marvin. Life... don't talk to me about life. |
1/11/09 06:05 pm - I normally hate insurance adverts...... but with Mr Barratt's dulcet Yorkshire tones, suddenly contents insurance seems a lot more appealling. Ignore the random pictures added by some Youtube fan, just shut your eyes and listen.... mmmm, socks.... sock it to me. |
9/30/08 05:06 pmBonjour! I should be revising, but instead I'm pissing around on youtube. Just felt like posting a couple of things that I'm enjoying: Androgynoel by Federal Drug Administration: Cute song, but my main love is that the video was filmed in Cambridge... that was my Topshop for four years! Stripper by Sohodolls I think this woman would be enough to turn the straightest of straight women. Also, Sohodolls are great, fact. Shame the song was used in Gossip Girl, but you can't have it all. That is all. Back to deferred tax. I'm so cool. Edit: Ooo, also, loving the cadburys advert with the gorilla drumming Bonnie Tyler's Total Eclipse of the Heart. In my head the gorilla is Bollo and Fossil & Bainbridge are dueting at the side! |
7/9/08 09:27 pm - Aha... found it!I knew I remembered this from my youth! Man he sounds drunk... massive slurring going on! And I'm honestly not sure why Noel jumps into a bin at the end. In other news, I have eaten too many brownies and feel very sick. |
7/2/08 11:15 pm - Help, daleks have invaded my kitchen... |
6/21/08 08:09 pm - Doctor Who Episode 11...OMG!!!!!!!!! That was such a good episode!!!! And the trailer for next week.... guh! That is all for now! Edit: Go watch it now!!! (and sorry for my ridiculous punctuation) |
5/25/08 11:45 pm - Crafting and zooing....Wee bit of vodka has been consumed, so I thought I'd post some pictures of my crafting recently.... ( Follow the yellow brick cut... ) |
7/23/07 11:46 am - Thoughts on Deathly Hallows from a normally silent livejournaller:Breaking my silence of about four months to comment on Harry Potter because I have to talk about it and my normal sounding board for things like that is not here... come back Char!!!! I only finished it at 2am last night, because being my slightly obsessive self, I had to reread the 6th book first, because I didn't want to miss out on any clues, and I couldn't remember everything that had happened. So anyway, here are my thoughts, under a cut of course because they are spoilerish and if anyone had said anything to me before I'd finished it I would have lynched them: ( SPOILER!!! ) |
3/21/07 11:47 am - Weekend of fun, Friday night of death....My friend is coming up from home to see me for a long weekend. I’m really looking forward to this of course, it’s been ages since we caught up properly, and I can’t wait to show her my new place. She’s decided to combine the trip with a visit to see this guy over in Huddersfield. He’s not her boyfriend, just someone she has fun with every now and again, which is absolutely fine by me, and I’ve got no problem with her going over to see him for half the trip or whatever she wants. However, that isn’t exactly the plan… instead she’s decided we should go over to see him and have a night out in Leeds, together. So I’ll be playing third wheel. Again, not a huge problem, I can deal with that for one night. Plus I’d quite like a night out in Leeds, it’s a cool place. Unfortunately, it turns out this guy is actually the spawn of satan. I’m not one to be melodramatic, or jump to conclusions (most of the time), but I’ve looked at this guy’s myspace page and he pretty much sums up everything that is wrong with the world today! He doesn’t read books because they’re ‘borin’’, he thinks reality tv shows rock, his favourite music is that techno with the chipmunk voices that all the kids on buses play on their phones (I think its called happy hardcore), and he has a shaved head with little patterns on either side. Seriously, I may have to kill him half way through the night, and put his head on a spike as a lesson to all his drunken mates. I’ve already checked the train times to see what time I can escape back to Manchester; I’m sure once my friend has got her hands on him she won’t mind if I’m there on not. (I’m not even going to go into how badly this guy reflects on my friend. I can only assume he is very well endowed). So yeah, looking forward to that night! After five weeks of exam hell I want a nice night out with my friends in a place that plays passable music and where people don’t call you a goth just because you’re not wearing a tracksuit with socks pulled over the legs. (/rant) I am actually looking forward to the rest of the weekend with her, honest! |
3/7/07 07:27 pm - IAMX Wine... |
3/5/07 08:25 pmInspired by him of shorts and knee high socks (Patrick Wolf), I decided to venture out today wearing shorts and knee high socks. This may have been an error... I can no longer feel my knees. It is very very cold today. This was not helped by the fact that I got up five minutes before my exam started so I didn't have time to wash my nasty hair or apply make up, so I looked more like an overgrown school boy than anything else. Not my best look. In other news, I am now the owner of officially the coolest shoes in the world. They will be worn to IAMX next week, in all their shiny pointy glory. And just as a reminder of the sheer liquid amazingness of the man we're going to see... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQNRfVQI Yay, only a week to go! |
2/25/07 11:16 am - Things that have rocked this week...- Jarvis Cocker gig: the man is a genius, it was an amazing gig, and totally managed to compete in greatness levels with Patrick Wolf, although in a very different way. Wish I could dance like him! - Haircut: I now have (for me) very short hair. Well kind of an inch below my chin anyway. But the cool bit is the funky asymetric fringe I got them to put it... not an emo style side sweepy one, but actually my thick fringe, cut shorter on one side. V. funky. Though it is weird not being able to tie my hair back any more. - Hot Fuzz: Went to see it last night, genius. Haven't laughed so much in ages and I had great fun spotting all the cameos. - Fratellis video: I know it should be against my musical credence to even be watching this, but I couldn't help noticing that the new video (the one for the song that's in Hot Fuzz - Baby Fratelli I think), was filmed on the roof next door to my apartment block. You can even see the Palace Hotel red light which is opposite me. I think that's pretty cool! - Patrick Wolf gig: Am I allowed to include this again? It was technically only 7 days ago - and i'm still buzzing from it! |
2/19/07 09:40 am - Patrick Wolf...Just have to make a quick post to tell you about the sheer amazingness that was last night's Patrick Wolf gig. Seriously, I think it might have been the best gig that I've ever been to, ever, although IAMX in London is currently still in contention for that prize. Let's put it this way, Mr Corner has some serious competition for sheer onstage sexiness and charisma now. The music was incredible, we were really close to the stage, but the best thing was Mr Wolf... I couldn't take my eyes off him. His opening line was ... "I've played three or four times in Manchester now, and each time my shoes get higher and my shorts get shorter!" This was true, he was wearing three inch platform shoes, golfing socks, these tiny shorts with a matching waistcoat and shirt... and the make up! Very eighties, loads of glitter and yellow stuff going on, just absolutely breathtakingly stunning. Plus when he tied himself to the microphone, well, I nearly combusted! He was so lovely as well, seemed really genuinely happy about the amazing reception he received and kept making these sweet little jokely comments. And his smile, ohhhh... Jarvis Cocker has a lot to live up to tonight... but I think he might be up for the challenge - he was after all one of my first crushes (I was an odd child!) |
1/5/07 04:59 pm - Still in the main part absent from the internet...... just popped in to say three things: 1) Have tickets for IAMX in march (woo yay). Stuff exams happening a week later, obsession with corner grows by the minute (plus another chance to build up courage to talk to people on f'list in real life, last time I hid!) 2) Green wing - am now filled with a squishy kind of love (and a growing obsession with JRT, expecially in his suit at the wedding) 3) Hugleikur Dagsson is a non-pc genius - check out www.myspace.com/hugleikur. I especially like the cartoon about the sailor And that's me offski for another month or so... hopefully i'll get my arse in gear one of these days to ask tiscalli where my internet is - i did order it in october! Sadly posting at work limits the possibility of any slashiness - and i even have a challenge entry I can't post without getting sacked!!! TTFN |
